During one of my early meetings with my Technology Manager in reference to the process I would take to successfullu assist in the updating of the technology plan, we discussed who I would need to contact and work with for different components. She informed me that when it came to the professional development component my direct contact would be my principal.
The last time the technology plan was updated goals were set for the 2008-2009 school year. I personally knew those goals had been met and many new goals have also been reached and set. I was excited to meet with my principal to gain her perspective on new goals and what she hopes for the school in terms of technology professional development.
My meeting was a one-on-one meeting and in preparation, I had created a reference sheet that included original language stated in the professional development section of the technology plan, highlighted areas that I felt needed to be revised, and my own ideas in a different font that I felt would help express the professional development that is taking place in my school. You can access the reference page here.
This meeting became one of my favorite parts of my internship.
I enjoyed this meeting because it gave me an opportunity to gain a different perceptive on professional development than I am narrowed to having as a teacher. My principal discussed with me her personal technology goals for my school community, as well as goals that are put in place by the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Together we discussed what was already happening within the school, what was going to happen within my school, and my principal hopes to happen within my school.
One of the highlights of this meeting was hearing the passion for technology that my principal has. She is truly passionate about creating a learning environment that supports students in the 21st century. She also is passionate about learning from others. Her goals for professionals development share the common theme of collaboration and building relationships. These are two key components I have learned through my courses within the Educational Techology program at Loyola University that are necessary to the success of professional development.
After the meeting, I was energized and had a better understanding of how to create the updated Technology Plan Professional Development component. We discussed each line and expand new ideas.
