Within my school's original technology plan there was a section titled "strategy." While in discussions with my school's Technology Manager/Director and through meetings with the Technology Committee, I learned that the key author of this section would be me. At first, I thought that was great. I could easily update this area using the knowledge I have regarding my school. However, I then remembered many of the conversations and discussions I had within my courses at Loyola, and I felt that something such as my school's overall strategy for technology implementation was not something I could address alone. I was not the only person who would be implementing the strategy, and I was not the person who was going to be the front of the implementation of the strategy. I knew I needed to discuss the these strategy with someone who would at the frontline of the implementation and integration of the technology plan. I decided I needed to meet and discuss these component of the technology plan with my principal.
One of my principal's true passions is technology, so she quickly agreed to meeting with me. It was during this meeting that she told me that she was actually one of the original writers of the technology plan, and she was very excited to see it being updated.
In preparation for this meeting I highlighted and included notes in a different font in red of the areas I felt needed to be updated and/or revised. You can access the original strategy component with my highlighted areas here. The original technology plan 's strategy addressed my school's accreditation and strategies my school had used to integrate the technology at the time of the original publication of the technology plan. I knew these areas needed to be readdressed.
Meeting with my principal to discuss the technology plan has become one of the highlights of my internship. It has been enlightening and energizing to talk with her about an area that she is so excited and truly wants to support in the moving forward. It was during this meeting that my principal told me her personal goal is to create an environment where we "challenge ourselves to look past what we are currently doing and look for the best parts of what is available and use them to support student learning in the 21st century." These words became the central idea of the strategy to implement and support the technology plan. Together with my principal I was able to update the strategy component of technology plan. I have included notes that I took during these meeting.
